About us

Tree

The Giving Branch was founded by a group of high school students in Northern Virginia who wanted to do their part to help the environment and advocate for people who don't have the power to advocate for themselves. We hope that seeing this page and its information inspires you to want to help, too. The world is changed one step at a time, and we hope to be one of those steps in the right direction.

WHO ARE WE?

OUR MISSION

Our goal in creating The Giving Branch has been mainly to educate people about the harm the fashion industry causes. In most people's day-to-day lives, they don't much consider where their new sweater came from. They mostly just evaluate the price, and to them, the cheaper the better. But its monetary value is not the item's true cost; its true cost is the hours of below-minimum wage work spent, possible lives lost, and the harm to the environment. We hope to get people to shop secondhand more often by offering an easy way to do so through our pop-up thrift shop. Our proceeds go to advocating for labor rights across the globe, so we hope we can both help the workers by advocating and the environment by decreasing clothing waste.
